United by purpose.
JEBELI Market was founded in 2023 by best friends Naz Jebeli (founder of JEBELI) and Ella Sellwood. We are a social enterprise that exists to provide economic opportunities to creatives from refugee backgrounds.
Refugees face many barriers to gaining meaningful employment after settling in Australia, including facing discrimination, having limited English, lacking local experience, being unable to get overseas qualifications recognised, being on temporary visas and having to cope with the psychological effects of displacement. Meanwhile, research has found refugees to be highly entrepreneurial, more likely than any other group to start their own businesses. People from refugee backgrounds often possess uncommon strength and incredible resilience, as well as the courage to take risks and the creativity, passion and determination necessary to see them pay off.
Here at JEBELI Market, we aim to assist refugee creatives to begin their small business journey, by offering a low-fee platform on which they can sell their products, as well as lots of support along the way!
JEBELI Market is also about supporting providing practical support to people seeking asylum in our community. We do this through partnering with frontline organisations doing great work in the refugee support sector. 50% of the profits from sales of our JEBELI Market-branded products are donated to our partner organisations. 100% of profits from the sales of our collaboration collections are donated to the organisation in question.
If you have any questions, are interested in supporting us, or are interested in selling or partnering with us, please reach out to us at support@jebelimarket.com.au or via the Contact page!
